Perioral dermatitis (PD) is an inflammatory skin barrier disorder that consists of erythema, papules, pustules and/or watery-vesicles. PD has been postulated to have a direct influence on the pilosebaceous unit, as a result of identified alterations of the follicular microbiome. The inflammation created destabilises the layers of cells that form the walls of follicles, resulting in structural inflammation and skin barrier impairment.
